On Thursday 28th January Cougar Park held a tag rugby tournament as a celebration of their six week coaching programme that was delivered by the Community Cougars Foundation.
The four schools that participated, St. Anne's, St. Stephens, St. Joseph's and Hothfield St, are all part of the Holy Family cluster. The winners were as follows: Year 6 boys - St. Stephens; Year 6 Girls - St. Anne's.
A player of the tournament was decided for both the boy and girls competitions with Ellie Simmons of St. Anne's taking the girls award after a stunning display in both attack and defence. She showed excellent poise and composure to score plenty of tries and was also very adept at tagging.
Jack Shaw of Hothfield St. Took the boys award which was chosen by Cougars Head coach Barry Eaton. Eaton added about Jack 'He showed great speed which helped him score several tries for his team. He also had a tremendous pass, which I have not seen in a lad of his age for a very long time.'
Congratulations go out to all four schools for their participation. We hope that this taster of rugby league has inspired them to participate in the game further.
