Batley Bulldogs full-back Johnny Campbell was presented with a specially engraved trophy by sponsors Northern Rail on Sunday for his player of the round performance in the 46-10 victory over Swinton Lions on February 14.
Campbell scored a crucial try in the 27th minute to give the Bulldogs a 14-4 lead a half-time before rounding off an impressive performance with a 90-metre try which set the home crowd alight.
The winger turned full-back gave Batley breathing space at half-time making his way past several Swinton defenders before touching down in the corner to give the Bulldogs a 10-point lead at the interval.
Campbell’s second try of the game rounded off what was a magnificent individual display from the 22-year old.
After collecting a kick from Swinton within in his own 10-metre line, Campbell cleverly stepped past four defenders to cross the try line after running the full length of the pitch.
Commenting on the award, Paul Harrison, Batley Bulls General Manager said: “We’ve been delighted with Johnny’s performances in the Northern Rail Cup.
“He has grabbed the opportunity to play full back with both hands and has gone from strength to strength.
“Johnny has already scored several times this season and the superb try against Swinton demonstrated just what pace he has got.”
